kuben: "I like the guys the way they are"

The coach of our CS:GO roster gave a short interview to the Polish portal ppe.pl. Jakub “kuben” Gurczyński spoke about the differences between VP.G2A players of different generations, and nostalgia for the Counter-Strike 1.6 era.

— Only a few years ago, you were the headshot-dealing pride of the Golden Five. Don’t you miss actively playing?

— I do a little, but my two-year-long adventure of coaching the guys has been no less of an interesting experience.

— What is the work you currently do at Virtus.pro? What is kuben in charge of?

— Lots of different things, which don’t all have to do with coaching the guys, but also with managing the team. I’m not in the habit of disclosing secrets concerning the structure of our team or speak openly about the tasks I’m given, so I’ll just say this much in reply to your question.

— Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas is 30, Filip “NEO” Kubski is 29, Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski is 28… For how much longer do you think this lineup will be able to compete with young blood in future tournaments?

— Until one of the guys themselves says his time’s up, and attempts to convince the rest of the players not to leave the team are unsuccessful.

— The team also has Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski, 23, and Paweł “byali” Bieliński, 22. What do these “youngsters” bring to the team?

— What they ought to. We the “elderly” have spent quite a lot of time together by now. It was we who lay down the rules of communicating inside the team. The young and rebellious newcomers to the team shut down the trails we’d spent years blazing, which had taken a lot of hard work and some arguments among the team. I think it’s a good thing. The old Golden Five had leveled the differences in our personalities, which slowly led to the team’s disintegration. On the other hand, the young “rebels”, which have their own opinions on a lot of matters, are finding use in the knowledge that we’re passing to them. I like the guys the way they are.
