DreamHack softened the rules for coaches. Kuben explains why this is good news

A few days before the start of the DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017 tournament organizers changed the rules of communication between coach and team during the matches.

The main change is that coaches can now talk to the team during freeze time, not just during time-outs.

Jakub "kuben" Gurczynski: "Changes in the rules are only cosmetic, certainly from the viewers perspective. But for me it's a huge change, I really love it. We had four 30 seconds timeouts per regular 30 rounds of a game, but we could not talk to the team during overtime – which was unfavorable, because last rounds in OT decide the final result and this is the time when coach needs to give his advices to his team the most. This is a good adjustment.

However, talk power was granted to coaches so they can speak with their players during the freeze time as well. This is an awesome news. This will also help the teams which are missing in game leaders. I really believe that more tournament organizers should follow DreamHack and make the same adjustments".

Full list of changes:

– Coaches can talk for 20 seconds during freeze time
– 4 timeouts per match for 30 seconds each. They can be used as teams see fit. No restrictions per half. Combined with freeze time, teams then have 50 seconds
– Unused timeouts will transfer to overtime
– Timeouts are not stackable and only one can be used at the time of calling a timeout
– Coaches can talk for 60 seconds during half time
– Everyone is muted during technical pauses
– Coaches can talk for 30 seconds in half time going to overtime
– Coaches can talk for 30 seconds in half time during overtime
